Testing
Sep 25, 2001

dear Dr Young Thanks for the earlier prompt replies . I now tested for ELISA at 10 weeks (-) and bDNA Viral load < 50 copies using 3rd Generation Bayer . However , i have a low Hemaglobin ,Hematocrit and Iron . Are these any indications of having the Virus .Lymphocytes is 23.4 Absolute - 1895 .Neutrophils is 69.1 Absolute at 1895 and WBC at 8.1 (3.8-10.8 reference range) had a low risk exposure Oral sex with condom but then after 2 weeks had chickenpox (confirmed with IGG and IGM Varicella for the same). Please let me know if i need to take another test at 12 weeks or should i clear my mind and go ahead . Having mild sore throat though doctor says post nasal dripping .

Response from Dr. Young

Sounds like your laboratory abnormalities are due to chickenpox and not HIV. I would doubt that you have mixed infection with both viruses, though formally I'd recommend getting a HIV test 6 months after your potential exposure to be absolutely sure. BY
