accuracy of SUDS Rapid test
Jan 27, 1998

Dr. Murphy, I tested negative to hiv antibody at 3, 6, and 9

months after a possible exposure. My testing was done by a physician

who treats a lot of AIDS and hiv patients, and he has a nurse who

specializes in in-office hiv testing using the SUDS Rapid test (results

are availble in about 30 minutes). Can I be confident in the accuracy

of my multiple test results, given that the SUDS was used, or this kind of

ELISA test less accurate than tests that are used in hospitals or labs?

Response from Dr. Murphy

Dear SUDS Questioner,

The SUDS test is quick, and almost as good as the ELISA/Western Blot. It sounds like you don't have HIV.
