Home access Test
Apr 13, 1998
All but one proffesional comment made about the Home access test has been favoring the accuracy of the test. In your opinion, do you consider it to be as accurate as the testing in any other lab? How regulated are labs by the FDA? I don't want to think for one minute that Home access is a scam job produced by two guys in their basement, with no testing facility...just hunches that a blood sample is either - or +. Wild imagination? I took this test a week ago...negative result. My personal window period exceeds 8 years, so that would not be a consideration in a false- result. thanks.

Response from Dr. Cohen

Like any test there is an error rate. My understanding is that the error rate is only slightly higher than the blood test. I can't tell if from your question you had a blood test done and the result is incorrect, or you aren't sure whether you can trust this negative result. However, the test is a good bit more than two guys in a basement... any test approved for use by the FDA passes a fairly high series of hurdles. And you should be able to see the information on the accuracy of the test from the place that did it for you.
So - if the test results don't send right to you - then a second test done by blood would be warranted. But, as I understand it, if it was done correctly and reads negative, then it should be correct.
good luck.
