Please Help
Jul 23, 2001
Dear Doctor Holodniy,
After a recent sexual encounter, I started to feel very ill with a alot of different symptoms. Since I know HIV could be possible, I went to my doctor and asked to be tested and I now await my results. However, my question is that during my initial visit the doctor ran lots of other general blood test and told me that my Globulin count is high, and that almost all HIV positive people have high globulin levels since you are producing antibodies, is this true?
Please answer for me as I am very nervous waiting for my results..

Response from Dr. Young

It is true that many persons with HIV infection have high globulin levels, however this finding typically represents the presence of lots of antibodies to HIV. It is equally possible that the presence of high globulins could be caused by any one of a number of other infections, even a cold or flu.
Best advice is to continue to get medical monitoring.
Good luck, BY
