Dear Dr. Young,
Thank you so much for answering my question about HIV DNA TEST. What I did not mention is that I have not been on any medication yet 10 years later, we negative pcr but positive DNA does your answer still apply. You spoke of HAART treament being the reason for negative pcr rna. but what if your not on drugs.

Thanks for your reply.
There are a scant few persons with laboratory testing like yours. Yes, a positive DNA PCR indicates that there are HIV viruses present inside of your cells (most likely CD4 cells). The absence of HIV RNA PCR means that there is no circulating virus. Taken together, these data would suggest that your body's defenses have been able to keep HIV from producing measurable amounts of virus.
