| Should I get tested? Jan 30, 2009 About two-three weeks ago I had protected vaginal sex and received unprotected oral sex from a women I've met that night. Recently I noticed I've been having a soar throat with mild pain when I swallow and an enlarged lymph node on the right side of my neck. Should I schedule an HIV test or is it just anxiety/stress acting up? |

Response from Dr. McGowan
Transmission of HIV through fellatio is not common (about 0.5 per 10,000 contacts). Your symptoms may be from gonorrhea which would be much more likely spread through oral sex. You should have yourself evaluated for GC and Chlamydia (and get an HIV and syphilis test while your at it). Joe |
