long term CD4
Nov 28, 2008

my CD 4 count started out 2 1/2 years ago at 86 now they are at 281. Viral was 2,000,000 now 208. my doctor said not to worry as long as the viral load in down true? by the way on atripla from the begining.

Response from Dr. McGowan

Dear Long Termer,

I am glad you are having such a great response. It is important, especially on Atripla, that your viral load stay undetectable (usually less than 50 copies). If your count "blipped" up to 208 that may not matter much as long as it goes back down below 50 again (usually we would repeat it right away to be sure). If it is not routinely undetectable and you have not been missing any doses (which is most important) than you should speak to your doctor about intensifying the treatment if possible. That may help to ensure that your CD4 count will continue to rise and that the treatment will remain durable and active.

Best, Joe
