Response from Dr. McGowan
I am sorry to hear that you have stopped your meds because you have moved. It is always a good idea to plan your move with your health care provider before you move to avoid any interruption in your care. Also, it is important to be sure that your health insurance will cover you before you move, or that if you have Medicaid or ADAP (which are State-specific) that you have made an application to obtain coverage in your new State. A very good resource to find an HIV expert provider in your region would be through the American Academy of HIV Medicine at their website: www.aahivm.org and use the "find a provider" service (there is no charge). Another approach would be inquire at the nearest teaching hospital (one with a a medical school affiliation) and see if they have an HIV or Infectious Diseases specialty program. These providers are usually the regional experts in HIV care. Good luck, Joe |
