Response from Dr. Daar
The overwhelming majority of newly infected people have virues that are not resistant to any drugs. A small number of people will be resistance to a drug and very very few will be resistant to many drugs. In the current era there are so many options for people that you have little reason to be concerned. If possible you should have drug resistance test performed. This will provide you peace of mind and will assist your providers with your future treatment. Remember, emotional and psychological stress is as big a threat to you as HIV so make sure that these issues are part of your total treatment plan. Share your concerns with your provider and s/he can provide additional direction. Best, Eric |
