CD Cell Count Drop
Sep 21, 2006

I have been undetectable for a few years with a CD cell count of 1200 or so. During a recent visit my count droped to 600 but I am still undetectable what cound cause this ? My MD indicated some fluxuation can occur we plan to do labs again in 30 day's but I thought an increased viral load would occur in the regiem was failing. I have been on Sustiva and compiviar for 5 years plus an undetectable even on the most recent labs

Response from Dr. Daar

I completely agree with your provider that fluctuations in CD4 cell counts do occur and in all likelihood your numbers will rebound with the next blood draw. You are correct that when therapy fails viral load generally goes up. It is because this did not occur in you that I do believe that what you have observed reflects normal CD4 fluctuation and you should not have anything to worry about.

Best, Eric
