| Fuzeon 2yr+ LUMPS not going away Sep 2, 2006 Hi, I've been using Fuzeon for 2yrs+ and since I'm thin I have very few injection sites. My belly has the most fat for injecting but I've had to stop (about 6mos ago) because the subcutaneous ISR lumps (cysts, etc) are not going away - I've used the Biojector, Small needles and have had no luck getting rid of the huge lumps (2-3 inch round x 6-8 inch long) on each side of my belly. I have switched to using my arms with a small needle. (I have given up on the Biojector because I feel it may have exacerbated my lesions.) ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The lumps have not been disturbed for about 6 mos and shown NO change - My doctors do not have any idea who to turn to, nor do I... Kind Regards, -lumpy in NY Post Script: (feel free to excerpt) I also have scars from my liver transplant (2yrs ago) and spleenectomy (10yrs ago) that I need to avoid. Lumps were prevalent prior to transplant. |

Response from Ms. Salisbury
Hi, The lumps sound very unusual to last this long. Repeated use in one site such as the abdomen can lead to problems with scarring. My suggestion is to avoid any lumpy area. Try to spend at least 5 minutes before and after the injection massaging the area with a hand-held massager if you can. Heat before and after can help with absorption of the Fuzeon. Other injection sites are love handles, buttocks, the back near the shoulder blade and any place you can pinch up skin. Inject the Fuzeon slowly over 1 to 2 minutes. I hope this helps, I know it can be difficult to self inject. Try to have someone else inject for you and see if it makes any difference. Also, don't be afraid to ask your practitioner to set up a home "Nurse Connections" visit. This is offered by Roche as a free service to patients on Fuzeon. Take care. Carol |
