Response from Dr. Daar
Hopefully she is seeing an HIV specialist and receiving effective antiretroviral therapy. If her viral load is undetectable and CD4 cells stable I would hope that she will never die of HIV disease. Obviously other medical conditions and life style issues are equally important. The main thing we look for in people on therapy is how they are feeling and what is going on with their CD4 cells and viral load. Hopefully there will be no physical problems to watch out for. Talk to your mother in law about the issues you raise with me. Hopefully she is getting the information she needs from her provider, and if she feels comfortable can share it with her family. I hope this helps answer your questions. Best, Eric |
