Bioinjector?
Dec 3, 2006
I read one of your responses and you mentioned an injector of some sort. How do I find out if I can use that? my partner started using fuzeon about 6 weeks ago and the injections are difficult and cause reactions on the skin -- bumps etc. Is it possible to try the injector?
Response from Ms. Salisbury
Hi,
The bioinjector is not yet FDA approved. If you are close to a large university setting they might have a study site that evaluated the bioinjector. My feeling is the studies are probably fully enrolled. The bioinjector has been discussed for over 1 year.
My clinic was not one of the official study sites. Asking your partner's practitioner might give you some information about a local center involved in the study. Also calling the Fuzeon support at 1-877-438-9366, for their current information might give you some answers.
The injection site reactions (ISRs) can be minimized with a few steps. First, warm and clean the site, massage for 3 to 5 minutes to improve circulation. Next, inject slowly over 1 to 2 minutes with the bevel down. Finally massage the site for 3 to 5 minutes and apply heat or ice which ever feels better. It is very important to mix the Fuzeon and allow to set for 1/2 hour until clear.
Usually over time you get better at the injection technique. Helping your partner by injecting for him will help to increase the areas that can be injected such as the "love handles", buttock, and back of arms. Good luck to you both, he is lucky to have someone to support his treatment. Carol
