Need Fuzeon Support group & tips
Oct 2, 2005

If one has swelling of ankles (probably from Fuzeon) and just takes Fuzeon once a day due to potential allergic reaction, how helpful is it? If a person stopped the Fuzeon for a few weeks and continued again and is getting "flu-like" symptoms along with dizziness and lethargy and no appetite does it sound like it's from Fuzeon or reaction to others meds (also taking Parkinson's meds as well as cocktail. INcreased Parkinson's meds about 3 weeks ago) Any other tips in addition to massaging site area to lessen bumps, etc. How do we find out about Fuzeon support group in Manhattan, NYC? Thanks much!

Response from Mr. Kurtyka

If you think you are having a potential allergic reaction to Fuzeon, please report back to your healthcare provider immediately so they can confirm this and/or determine the actual source of your problem. The answer is NOT to decrease Fuzeon injections to once a day as this just likely to cause resistance to the drug to develop.

Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions are rare but possible with Fuzeon and they can occur if someone restarts Fuzeon after having stopped it. Common symptoms could include fever, rash, nausea, vomiting, chills, low blood pressure, breathing difficulties and more. Unfortunately these same symptoms can occur if you are on other meds. Best advice is to report your symptoms to your healthcare provider so he or she can determine if they are related to Fuzeon, your Parkinson's meds, other meds, or something totally unrelated.

There are a number of previous posts to the web site about ways to minimize injection site reactions. Please scroll down through them and hopefully you'll find something that works for you.

Fuzeon support groups are available in a number of cities. My recommendation is to contact the local Fuzeon sales rep in your area to see if and when they are available. If you're not sure of your local reps name, your HIV healthcare provider should be able to get you in touch. Local case managers as well as HIV/AIDS service organizations should also be able to tell you what's available in Manhattan.
