Other Needles
Apr 24, 2005
I have been on Fuzeon for about a month now and everything aside, I plan on making it work. While I think I've gotten pretty good at the injections over all, I do have occasional problems "sticking" myself and am beginning to wonder if it is actually the needle itself. If I were to talk to my doctor about the possibility of trying a needle other than what is supplied to see if they might be better for me, what particulars should I look for? Is there a particular size? I know it's got to be small but when I look online, they really vary in sizes and since I'm no expert on them, I don't want to ask for the wrong one. I'm determined to make this work, I'd just like to see if there is a way I can ease some of the discomfort that occasionally happens.

Response from Mr. Kurtyka

I've heard from many people that they have problems with the needles and syringes that come with the Fuzeon kits. Many people have had success by switching to alternative needles and syringes. Usually an insulin syringe works best for injection into the skin. They are usually 26 or 27 guage and need to be able to hold 1cc of medication (some insulin syringes only hold 1/2 cc. Many patients find these alternatives easier to use, sharper, more confortable, and often are associated with less irritation at the injection site. Remember that the needles don't retract into the syringe, so you have to be especially careful disposing of them immediately in a needle disposal box. Good luck!
