|Please answer...Question about new treatments
Jun 2, 2003
Is it true that with new treatments a person with hiv can now live out the their full or close to full lives? My doctor told me this but is this false hope?

I agree with what your doctor said. With the medications currently available many people can be expected to live close to normal lives, so long as (1) they were not infected with a resistant virus, (2) take the medications exactly as directed so that they do not quickly fail the regimens they are given, and (3) take good care of themselves and do not engage in drug abuse, alcohol abuse or other behaviors that may compromise their health. so, putting this together with the continuing development of new drugs and treatments I think HIV patients can be very optimistic about the future.
