| Alcohol and meds Mar 27, 2002 I never miss a dose of Combivir -- so adherence is not a problem. (I'm taking AZT and 3TC as PEP, 11 does so far.) But occasionally I'll take the the drug on a relatively empty stomach with several (3 or 4) alcoholic drinks. I'm aware of the potential for toxicity and liver/pancreas problems. What I'd like to know is whether alcohol reduces or renders ineffective, in any way, the antiretroviral activity of these drugs. PLEASE answer, I'm scared. |

Response from Dr. Boyle
Moderate amounts of alcohol should not affect the effectiveness of these medications, unless it makes you forget to take them. | |||||||||
