| I'm not on meds...can I take alcohol? Jul 9, 2011 Doc, I appreciate your contributions. I am not on ARV meds, but I take immunace, a drug that enhances the immune system. My CD4 count is 523. Can I take alcoholic beverages? What would be the effect of alcohol on my positive status? |

Response from Dr. Fawcett
Medical consensus is that moderate drinking, defined as one drink of alcohol per day, generally appears to have no effect on the immune system. Individual variables such as liver function, of course, need to be taken into account. I don't know of any specific interaction between immunace and alcohol, but I would recommend checking with your physician both about using alcoholic beverages and potential drug interactions. -David | |||||||||
