chromium and atripla
Apr 13, 2011

Hi

I am tacking Atripla 4 years now and i want to ask, is it ok to take chromium pills since i am on Atripla treatment?

I want to loose some fat that is why i want to take for same time Chromium pills.

What do you think?

Response from Dr. Fawcett

Chromium is used to increase lean muscle and decrease body fat, although actual shortages of chromium in humans are very rare. The National Academy of Sciences established adequate intakes of this mineral, all of which are available in foods. That said, people do take supplemental chromium and it has been shown to interact with certain medications. Definitely check with your doctor about how chromium might affect Atripla. Don't forget the time-tested methods for losing body fat: healthy eating and plenty of exercise. These methods are probably safer, more effective, and have the extra benefit of improved mood.
