Please pray for me
Sep 27, 1999
Dear Father, I have been very sick for one year. I have some sort of immune deficiency, they are not sure if it is aids but I am undergoing testing. My life is full of depression, fear, and uncertainty. I need your prayers to strengthen my faith. I am looking to the Lord for guidance in dealing with my illness, whatever the outcome. I have lost my job as a college teacher, lost my boyfriend, lost all my money and most of my friends. I need to be lifted up in prayer in order to go on. I read the bible each night and try to find peace but I'm so lonely, depressed, and freightened that I dwell on my pain and symptoms most of the day. Please pray for me. God bless you for the work you do. Sincerely, Kim

Response from Father DeMartini

Dear Kim--Thank you for your very honest letter. Let me begin by assuring you that you are in my prayers that God will guide your way to find the support and consolation you need. You have mentioned so much loss and pain and uncertainty that I hope you could find someone---friend, minister, family member--to talk with. I am aware of some very caring and spiritual people around the country who can be this kind of companion. You will recall that in the Gospels, Jesus sent out his disciples in pairs---so they would not have to face uncertainty and challenge alone. If you want me to recommend someone in your area please contact me on this page or directly at ncan@sonic.net which is the e-mail address of the National Catholic AIDS Network. Facing all this pain and grief alone can be as devastating as any disease--I hope that you can find the trust and energy to invite a caring companion to journey with you. Blessings and peace, Fr. Rod
