mi padre fallecio de leiomiosarcoma de vejiga hace 6 años, este tipo de cancer puede heredarse a los hijos y si tiene alguna relacion con el sarcoma de Kaposi. Nosotros los hijos (04) tenemos un cierto temor.

El sarcoma de Kaposi se asocia de manera muy significativa a infección por un nuevo virus llamado herpes virus tipo 8. Este virus se asocia también a otras enfermedades como la enfermedad de Castelman y los linfomas de cavidades como la pleura.
Sabemos muy poquito todavía acerca de este virus. Aparentemente se transmite de manera similar al virus del VIH (relaciones sexuales y compartir agujas infectadas). Existen métodos para saber si una persona esta infectada por el virus, buscando anticuerpos, pero que yo sepa los test todavía no son comerciales. Se desconoce la frecuencia de la transmisión intrafamiliar, pero si es similar a otros virus de la misma familia, como el EBV (el virus de la mononucleosis infecciosa), es probablemente rara.
Los leiomiosarcomas son tumores malignos de un tipo de músculo (el músculo liso). Son tumores muy raros de la vejiga. La mayoría de los tumores de vejiga son de origen urotelial. Los leiomisarcomas se han asociado con infección por EBV (el virus de la mononuclosis infecciosa) en algunos pacientes con infección simultanea por el virus del SIDA. Que yo sepa no se han asociado con el virus que produce el sarcoma de kaposi. De hecho recuerdo una carta en el New England Journal of Medicine (la revista biomédica más famosa) en el que los investigadores buscaron secuencias del virus que produce el kaposi en leimiosarcomas sin encontrarlo.
