ELISA HIV-1 ó HIV-2???

Hola Dr. Steve, le aseguro que antes de escribirle leí bastantes posts y sus respuestas, pero no encontré un post directamente relacionado con mi pregunta, así que aquí vá:
Hace un par de días me hice una prueba ELISA con resultado negativo, pero estoy confundido respecto a los dos tipos de virus HIV-1 y HIV-2 que detecta ésta prueba, ya que en el laboratorio sólo ordené una prueba ELISA sin especificar nada más y ellos tampoco me indicaron si la prueba cubre o detecta ambos tipos o sólo uno de ellos.
He escuchado que actualmente todas y cualquier prueba ELISA (en el mundo?) detectan ambos tipos de virus pero quiero estar seguro.
Apreciaré su pronta respuesta y Dios lo bendiga por su extraodinaria labor, saludos!

Hola,
No es verdad lo que has escuchado: ". . . actualmente todas y cualquier prueba ELISA . . . detectan ambos tipos de virus (VIH-1 y VIH-2). Claro que existen estas pruebas que detectan ambos tipos, tal como el examen OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test; sin embargo, es bien posible que la ELISA que te hiciste buscara solamente los anticuerpos contra el VIH-1.
En cuanto al VIH-2, ten en cuenta que se lo encuentra principalmente en el África del Oeste.
