Dr. Steven:
Mis mas siceras felicitaciones por la pasion con la que desempeña su vida. Mi consulta esta referida a lo siguiente: Usted señala que la prueba Elisa es el patron oro para diagnosticar una infeccion por VIH ¿Que sucede con otras pruebas como por ejemplo MEIA, ELFA (enzime Linked Fluorescent Assay), o Quimioluminiscencia? ¿Son igual de efectivas?
Esperando su pronta respuesta para disipar dudas ya que nunca me he realizado un Elisa sino que todas las demas pruebas. ¿Puedo estar tranquilo?

Querido amigo,
Gracias por escribirme y pedir esta clarificación, porque puedo ver como surge la confusión. Utilizaba yo la prueba ELISA como uno ejemplo de una categoría de exámenes, las pruebas de sangre que detectan los anticuerpos contra el VIH. Debería haber dicho que la prueba ELISA y otros exámenes comparables que también medir los anticuerpos contra el VIH son el patrón oro para diagnosticar una infección por VIH.
