Triterapias y prolongación de vida

Hola Doctor, mi nombre es José Miguel y escribo desde Chile. Entiendo que una vez infectada con VIH, y sin tratamiento alguno, una persona puede vivir hasta unos 8-10 años en promedio. ¿Cuántos años adicionales de vida sobre éstos pueden esperarse con un tratamiento adecuado y bien llevado y una vida sana?, ¿Se puede vivir indefinidamente, o la muerte es a la larga inevitable? Me han dicho que estas drogas especializadas producen con el tiempo fuertes daños en el organismo (riñón, etc.). Muchas gracias.

La historia natural de una infección por VIH no tratada es variable; sin embargo, sin tratamiento alguno, el descenso medio de los CD4 es 50 células por año y el tiempo medio desde el contagio hasta el desarrollo de una infección o malignidad oportunista que llena los requisitos de SIDA es 10 años. No es una esperanza de vida de unos 8-10 años como escribiste.
¿Cuántos años adicionales de vida sobre éstos pueden esperarse con un tratamiento adecuado y bien llevado y una vida sana?

¿Se puede vivir indefinidamente, o la muerte es a la larga inevitable?
Lo oíste aquí primero: no se puede vivir indefinidamente. Los dos seguros son la muerte y los impuestos.
En cuanto a los efectos secundarios y las toxicidades potenciales de estos fármacos antirretrovirales, sí existen. Sin embargo, con nuestras terapias más nuevas, éstos son, en general, menos acusados y mejor tolerados. Pero la potencialidad se queda real y por eso todos tomando una terapia antirretroviral deben estar en manos de un médico especialista en VIH/SIDA.
