Toxoplasmosis

Hola Dr. Steve
Tengo 27 anos mi pareja 40, tiene un HIV avanzado, no tomo sus medicinas y paro en el hospital, en el hospital su doctora le diagnostico Toxoplasmosis. Ahora bien mi pregunta es que como el puede tartar es enfermedad, como se previene la misma y que si hay algun riesgo que la enfermedad vuelva?
Que consecuencia trae la toxoplosmosis en un individuo con un HIV avanzado?

Hola Mario,
Siento que le diagnosticara Toxoplasmosis a tu pareja. Sin embargo, hay los tratamientos eficaces. La terapia preferida es una combinación de tres fármacos pyrimethamine, leukovorin y sulfdiazine tomados por vía oral por lo menos 6 semanas. Sus síntomas debieran mejorar en una semana y los hallazgos en la resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN, MRI por sus siglas en inglés) craneal, en 2 semanas. Después de esta terapia inicial, una terapia de mantenimiento será necesaria hasta que, con la ayuda del tratamiento antirretroviral, su recuento de CD4 aumente por encima de 200 células y permanezca a este nivel por lo menos 6 meses y hasta que sus síntomas hayan desparecido completamente. Esta terapia de mantenimiento es para prevenir una recaída. Las buenas noticias son que la mayoría de pacientes con Toxoplasmosis responden al tratamiento. Espero que esta información te ayude.
