ES MEJOR TRUVADA QUE COMVIBIR?

DOCTOR STEVEN, MI PREGUNTA ES... DEBIDO A QUE SALI ALTO EN COLESTEROL(584) Y TRIGLICERIDOS(394), Y A QUE ESTOY CONSTANTEMENTE MAREADO Y CON NAUSEAS, MI DOCTOR DECIDIO CAMBIARME MIS MEDICAMENTOS PARA VIH, EN VEZ DE COMVIBIR QUE TOMABA DOS VECES AL DIA ME DIJO QUE TOMARA TRUVADA, IGUAL CON EFAVIRENZ QUE TOMABA ANTERIORMENTE... ES BUENO ESTE CAMBIO? QUE RIESGOS HAY EN ESTE CAMBIO? ES MEJOR TRUVADA QUE COMVIBIR?

Hola Alejandro,
Muchos especialistas en VIH/SIDA, incluyéndome a mi, están de acuerdo en que Truvada (tenofovir + emtricitabina) es preferible a Combivir (zidovudina + lamivudina) debido a la zidovudina (AZT, Retrovir) y su perfil de efectos secundarios y toxicidades (fatiga, náuseas, dolores de cabeza, lipoatrofia, anemia entre otros). Por lo tanto, estoy completamente de acuerdo con tu médico y su decisión de cambiarte el régimen. Te recomiendo que controles tu carga viral entre dos y cuatro semanas después de haber hecho este cambio para confirmar que el nuevo régimen está suprimiendo bien el virus en sangre. En cuanto a los efectos secundarios potenciales de Truvada, el más importante, y afortunadamente muy raro, es la toxicidad renal. Mientras tomas Truvada, debes controlar las pruebas de funcionamiento renal (una prueba de sangre) cada tres o cuatro meses.
