Dr. Natterstad soy un espanol coinfectado (VIH, VHC) y hasta la fecha estaba andando muy bien -- VIH indetectable y la hepatitis bien controlada con interferon y ribavirina. Pero mi doctor se acaba de decirme que estoy anemico y por eso quiere reducir la dosis de uno de los dos farmacos. pero me parece que una dosis reducida no es tan eficaz como la dosis recomendada. que pasaria en cuanto a la hepatitis C? antes de hacer este cambio de tratamiento, quiero su opinion. gracias de antemano

Hola,
Estoy sumamente contento de que me hayas escrito antes de cambiar de dosis porque creo fuertemente que tengo una opción mucha mejor para ti. Afortunadamente, existe un antianémico que permite mantener el tratamiento de la hepatitis C. Se llama epoetina alfa (Procrit en EEUU, Eprex en España) y es idéntico a una proteína humana, la eritropoyetina endógena humana, que estimula la producción de glóbulos rojos y así puede mitigar la anemia. Tienes razón de estar preocupado de disminuir la dosis de uno de los fármacos anti-VHC (la ribavirina, me imagino) porque una dosis reducida de ribavirina suele asociarse a una menor probabilidad de mantener una respuesta virológica sostenida. Además, los estudios clínicos han mostrado que la calidad de vida es más elevada en los pacientes tratados con Procrit/Eprex en comparación con los que reciben un tratamiento antianémico estándar y que está generalmente bien tolerado y que no hay esencialmente ningunas interacciones con otros fármacos.
Habla con tu médico especialista en VIH de esta alternativa de mantener tu tratamiento de la hepatitis C mientras usar Procrit/Eprex para combatir tu anemia.
