Querido Juan,
El asunto aquí es, antes que nada, proteger la seronegatividad de la futura mamá. Afortunadamente, existe una técnica llamada "sperm washing," por la cual la esperma está separada de los fluidos y las células del semen que puedan llevar el virus. Entonces, la esperma puede ser usada para la inseminación artificial o la fecundación "in vitro." La esperma sí misma puede llevar VIH, pero la mayoría del VIH está llevada por las otras células del semen. Dr. Augusto Semprini en Milano fue el primer en aplacar esta técnica y a partir de diciembre del año 2005 su programa ha emprendido más de 2.000 inseminaciones y varios cientos de ciclos IVF (fecundación in vitro, por sus siglas en inglés). En ese momento, ninguna de las mujeres había seroconvertido y todos los niños nacidos se quedaban seronegativos. El niño mayor tenía en ese momento once años.
