Estimado Steve: gracias por tu contestación. En este caso, me gustaría conocer tu opinión sobre el procedimiento a seguir para que mi mujer que es seronegativa y tiene 37 años, y yo, como ya sabes seropositivo, podamos tener un hijo propio. Creo que existe una técnica, aplicada también en algunas clínicas españolas que consiste en una especie de "cribado" o "limpieza del semen" para implantarlo despues directamente o a través de "fecundación in vitro". ? Podrías decirme si es un proceso muy complejo, y si es absolutamente seguro tanto para la madre como para el hijo? Muchas gracias nuevamente.

Hola Javier,
Tienes razón. Existe una técnica llamada la limpieza de la esperma ("sperm washing," en inglés), por la cual la esperma está separada de los fluidos y las células del semen que puedan llevar el virus. Entonces, la esperma puede ser usada para la inseminación artificial o la fecundación "in vitro." La esperma sí misma puede llevar VIH, pero la mayoría del VIH está llevada por las otras células del semen. No estoy familiarizado con las clínicas españolas que mencionaste, pero permíteme darte algunos contactos y otras fuentes de información. Dr. Augusto Semprini ha usado la limpieza de la esperma en Italia con algún éxito. Dos médicos en los Estados Unidos, Dr. Ann Kiessling (Harvard Medical School, Boston) y Dr. Mark Sauer (Columbia University, New York City) están realizando ensayos clínicos, evaluando este procedimiento en los hombres VIH-positivos.
