Estimado Dr Steve Natterstad:
Si uno tiene una carga viral persistentemente alta (>100.000), se encuentra sin medicacion y le cuesta recuperar peso a pesar de estar comiendo muchisimo...aumentaria de peso si cayera la carga viral luego de iniciar tratamiento con antiretrovirales?

Querido Diego de la Argentina,
Lo esencial es que si uno tiene una carga viral persistentemente superior a 100.000 copias, no importa el peso ni los CD4, debe pensar seriamente en iniciar tratamiento. En cuanto al problema de pérdida de peso, debe asegurarse de que la testosterona en sangre es normal y que su dieta contiene una cantidad suficiente de proteína (el doble de lo que requiere una persona seronegativa). También debe iniciar un programa de entrenamiento con pesos, lo cual aumentará y mantendrá la masa muscular.
