		IgM Jun 26, 2006 Reciba cordial saludo! He leido acerca de la detecci�n de IgM como indicador de un posible contagio por VIH, aunque se que no es pespec�fico. Durante cuanto tiempo se pueden evidenciar estos anticuerpos luego de la exposici�n al virus? Le agradecer�a si ampliara esta informaci�n.


Advertisement Respuesta del Dr. Santana Estimado Amigo: IgM al igual que todas las demas inmunoglobulinas (A,M,E,G) se activan luego de una exposicion al sistema inmune. La IgM es la primera que se activa y usualmente ocurre en las primeras 2-3 semanas luego de la exposicion. Utilizar IgM solamente como indice predictivo de infeccion por VIH puede ser algo riesgoso ya que su sensitivid y especificidad no es la mas deseada, recuerde que medir inmunoglobulinas sericas pueden alterarse con cualquier exposicion viral, bacteriana, fungal etc. Por consiguiente es preferible utilizar la prueba de Elisa especifica o la de PCR VIH.
