He leido acerca de la detección de IgM como indicador de un posible contagio por VIH, aunque se que no es pespecífico. Durante cuanto tiempo se pueden evidenciar estos anticuerpos luego de la exposición al virus? Le agradecería si ampliara esta información.

Estimado Amigo:
IgM al igual que todas las demas inmunoglobulinas (A,M,E,G) se activan luego de una exposicion al sistema inmune.
La IgM es la primera que se activa y usualmente ocurre en las primeras 2-3 semanas luego de la exposicion.
Utilizar IgM solamente como indice predictivo de infeccion por VIH puede ser algo riesgoso ya que su sensitivid y especificidad no es la mas deseada, recuerde que medir inmunoglobulinas sericas pueden alterarse con cualquier exposicion viral, bacteriana, fungal etc.
Por consiguiente es preferible utilizar la prueba de Elisa especifica o la de PCR VIH.
