|Combivir totally equivalent to AZT + 3TC?
May 23, 2001
Is Combivir completely equivalent to taking AZT and 3TC separately? I suppose when taken separately, the proportion could be changed (more of one or the other) whereas the propotion is fixed in Combivir, right? Any other reason why the separate drugs would be preferred over the combination in Combivir?
Many thanks for your help.

No, combivir has been shown in several studies to be comparable to zidovudine and lamivudine dosed seperately. So, if you are taking zidovudine and lamivudine as part of your antiretroviral regimen, it makes sense to take combivir.
