toe nail fungus
Oct 19, 2001

I have been taking lamisil for about 6 months while my toe nails look much better they still need more. Is there a time limit to be on lamisil? What is the longest time you have heard of a person needing this? 760 t-cells, undetectable vl. Viramune, Combivar

Response from Dr. Henry

The use of Lamisil for 12 weeks results in about a 70% cure rate for fungal infections of the toenails. In my experience it often takes up to 6 months to clear the infection. For a few patients, 6-12 months are needed and occasionally the infection simply does not clear. It can take several months for healthy uninfected nail to grow out from the nail bed. There is not alot of published data about long courses of Lamisil. Use in pregnancy and during nursing is not recommended. KH
