Response from Dr. Henry
There are numerous reports about various types of arthritis and arthralgias in the setting of HIV/AIDS. One of the more recent is a concern about avascular necrosis of the hip region. A standard X-ray and a good physical exam and history are a good place to start trying to differentiate that condition from osteoarthritis versus rheumatoid conditions versus degenerative joint disease, etc. The list is quite long and there is no study per se that spells it all out. A good evaluation by your HIV or primary care doc is a good way to begin to sort out the possibilities. Keith Henry, M.D. | |||||||||
