undetectable viral load and hiv test?
Jul 14, 2000

Dear Doc,

I'm undetectable and my cd4 are 624....been taking crixivan and combivir for 4 yrs and doing question is: I have to take an HIV test for immigration purposes...Is my test gonna come out negative because i'm undetectable??

Thanks so much for the help,

best regards.

Response from Dr. Boyle

No, your HIV test will be positive. The HIV test commonly used measures antibody to HIV, not HIV itself. Therefore, the test remains positive even though the virus may be fully suppressed with your current regimen. Brian Boyle, M.D., J.D.
