| sustiva- one a day Sep 10, 2001 Dr Brian Boyle, when I think of a one a day medication for the treatment of HIV Im thinking of one pill one medication- (or a number of pills such as sustivia 3 pills once a day). Is that to say that sustivia alone, once/day will suppress viral loads, or must one take other medications as well to form the cocktail, such as Im taking: sustivia (once a day at night), abacavir twice/day, and 3tc twice/day. Could you please shed some light on this, and again, a sincere thanks for your time and dedication to this site. Sincerely, Michael |

Response from Dr. Boyle
No antiretroviral can be given by itself since viral suppression is generally inadequate and resistance can quickly develop. Triple therapy, using three different antiretrovirals like you are on, is the standard of care. | |||||||||
