numbness only when frustrated/under stress
Nov 10, 1997

Dear Doctor Galant,

I am presently on Videx + d4T + Hydrea since early September.

Recently, I have been experiencing numbness from the ends of my fingers to my hand and same with my feet. This happens only when I am feeling down/depressed. I have had it 3 times in the past 4 weeks. It lasts about 1-2 hours.

Once I feel emotionally better, it goes away. Do you think this may be because of Videx and is it serious enough to make a change? I am doing well on this regimen and I would like to stay on it.

Thanks a lot.

Rarinporn

Response from Dr. Gallant

Rarinporn,

What you're describing is not characteristic of neuropathy, which typically starts in the toes and is fairly persistant. Many people get tingling or numb feelings in their hands or feet when they are tired, upset, or anxious. This doesn't sound like an effect of the medications.
