May 16, 2000
Having tried a number of things to reverse my facial wasting...changing meds, injecting fascian, the riboflavin - co q 10 - l carnitine combo...all to no avail, im curious about the "oral diabetic" drugs ive seen mentioned in postings recently. can you name some names so that when i go in to my MD demanding a script i'll sound like i know what im talking about. my thanks to you very much.

Metformin, Avandia (rosiglitazone) and Actos (pioglitazone) are being looked at (one drug -- Rezulin -- has been pulled from the marker for liver safety reasons). These are not ready for prime time and have real safety issues (esp liver). The ACTG may be looking at this later this year and Serono is planning a growth hormone study this year. Extremely tough and important problem now getting the attention is deserves. Keith Henry, M.D.
