Thank you for HTLV-1 answer Mar 31, 2000 Dear doctor, Thank you for answering my HTLV-1 question. I do have symptoms from HTLV-1, I get severe fevers which I control with daily doses of prednisone and sever flu like symptoms. On top of all the HAART cocktails for AIDS. It's not easy and I am worried not to contract leukemia since my viral load is 300,000 and T-cells 30 infected for 14 years. Thank you again very much. |

 In general your symptoms are more likely related to your HIV status. Some studies have suggested that HTLV-1 and HIV interact together in some patients to make HIV grow faster. With a T cell count of 30 there would be some concern about other infections such as MAC (a bacterial blood infection), CMV, etc which should be assessed. Also, hopefully you are on some meds to prevent some HIV related infections (antibiotics and such). Also, it is important to try and optimize your nutritional and hormonally status.
