| use of phenotype for AIDS May 31, 2000 Doctor is going to use phenotype, has discontinued all my medications, will do testing using word phenotype. Could you explain his thinking on this to me? |

The phenotype test is a very expensive form of resistance testing that is not nearly as useful if you have discontinued your medications for even a few days (since the drug sensitive "wild-type" often comes back rather quickly off drugs). There is a resistance Q and A forum available at this website as well. Resistance tests are used to assess what might be the next good active drug cocktail that could be put together for you.
