Noone has been able to answer my question-can you?
Apr 6, 1998

My question goes like this: Does Peripheral Nueropathy strike during the early hiv infection period, say, like within 2 - 3 months from possible exposure and does it affect the neck and face as well? My symptoms are mainly on my forearms and hands, shins and ankles and occasionally both sides of my face.

No one has been able to answer this question to my satisfaction. Mr. Sadowski states that nueropathy is a condition that presents itself well into the disease. Another article I read says that it can manifest itself at anytime during infection, and yet another article states that it is cause by a reaction to Hiv treatment. The local Aids Hotline told me: Ohhhh, that is a symptom of Hiv, putting me in greater panic of possibly being infect.

I have tested myself at 3 and 4 months using the home access kit and it has been negative both times, however, I am aware that I am not out of the woods yet. So Please, could you set my mind at ease and educate me about what stage this thing develops?

Sorry for ranting, but No one seems to want to give me a straight answer. I am hoping that you will!!!

Response from Dr. Currier

Neuropathy develops later in the course of disease. It does not affect the face.Your symptoms do not sounds like neuropathy, and your negative test after 3-4 months suggets that you are not infected.
