|Truvada and Efavirenz with Cold Medicines
Sep 18, 2013
Doctor, Good Afternoon,
Last april I got detected with HIV, my cd4 were 170 and my viral load about 75,000, I stared truvada + efavirenz treatment in May, then on July I made another test, and my cd4 went up to 480 and my viral load almost dissapeared with only 80 units.
Unfortunaly, two days ago I got a cold, my doubt is if can I take any cold medicine as moxifloxacino or amoxicilina?
Thanks for all your support and time, Best regards!
Response from Dr. Henry
Generally OK to take either of those antibiotics for a short time with your HIV Medications. Since colds are most often due to viruses, antibiotic are recommended for most colds and over-use of antibiotics directly contributes to emergence of drug resistance bacteria. Recommend discussing with your doctor whether an antibiotic is indicated. KH
