|RE : Hemorrhoidectomy for HIV+ person with high blood glucose
Jun 19, 2013
Dear Doctor, My cousin is HIV+ person with current CD4 : 368 and viral load has been un-detectable for several years. Due to side-effect of ARV pills which he is taking at present, his blood glucose is higher. Current fasting blood glucose is around 135mg/dl and 2hours after fasting is around 175. He is on Duviral and Enfaviren at present. He is having acute hemorrhoid/piles. Can he do the operation/surgery (hemorrhoidectomy) under his above health condition? Can the drug interaction be occurred with his regimens ? We do appreciate your advice ! Thank you so much

HIV+ patients (often even those not on HIV treatmetn) generally do well with standard surgery including hemorrhoid surgery. Monitoring for flare up of diabetes is standard practice when surgery performed. KH
