| Are probiotic and prebiotic supplements safe for the HIV infected person? Jan 25, 2013 Recently I read that probiotic and prebiotic supplements can help reduce inflammation in the HIV positive person. Having experienced pericarditis I was glad to hear this. However, I read another report from 2011 suggesting people with HIV should avoid those type of supplements. What's true? |

Little good published data on the topic while much chatter on the internet so difficult to comment without knowing specifics of your HIV situation, which HIV meds you on on, what other health problems and meds pertain to your situation, and which specific probiotic products you are considering to use. Most of the probiotic claims are not supported by good data yet while, in general, probiotics dont cause problems in HIV+ persons I recommend informing your HIV provider so he/she can monitor situation.
