| HIV and Respiratory Infections Aug 29, 2012 I have read once and again that HIV is not in itself a risk factor for frequent or more prolonged colds, given the distinction between humoral immunity and t-cell immunity. However, the WHO does list "recurrent respiratory infections" as being part of Stage 2 of HIV infection. So, by having HIV am I more prone to colds or not?! Thank you |

Recurrent pneumonias can be due to HIV infection. Some HIV patients do have more frequent and severe upper respiratory/sinus infections. HIV pxs doing well on treatment generally have flu, colds at a roughly similar rate and level of symptoms similar to those in the general population. KH | |||||||||
