Response from Dr. Henry
The recommendation to take Atripla on an empty stomach is generally to avoid the fat effect on absorption of efavirenz that can lead to higher levels of efavirenz (higher risk for side effects--doesnt lessen and may enhance anti-HIV effect). The general recommendation to take Atripla before bed time is due to the empty stomach issues AND the minimizing the central nervous side effects of efavirenz that can include dreams and sleepiness. If you dont notice dream or sleeping changes from the Atripla than you likely can take the Atripla at a time convenient for you and not dependent on your sleep cycle. KH | |||||||||
