Serostim vs Egrifta
Feb 22, 2012
My insurance company will pay for Serostim but not Egrifta.(not yet on their list of acceptable drugs) I have a viceral fat problem in my belly. It would seem to me that Egrifta is the better choice. Plus, it's cheaper for the insurance company. Should I push the insurance company to change its mind?
Response from Dr. Henry
Egrifta may be a better choice but is only modestly effective while taken (effects reverse when stopped), is very expensive, has not shown to have any actual clinical benefit (very modest overall decrease in abdominal fat/waist size) such as prolonged life/less cardiovacular disease, and still is associated with some side effects (such as bone pain in some patients).
