TRIODAY OR VIRADAY
Feb 22, 2012
Hi doc, which one do u prefer as the starting regimen? trioday (tenofovir+lamivudin+efavirenz) or viraday (generic of atripla)? i am from a developing country and trioday is cheaper than viraday. please consider efficacy, potential short and long term side effects, chance of resistance emergence, daily dosing (are both of them "once a day pill"?), interaction with food and price. thanks a lot doc.
Response from Dr. Henry
Both choices good and likely quite similar. I have no experience with Trioday nor is there much published data on that or comparing Trioday to Viraday to my knowledge (if any reader knows of a published study please post!!!!!). If cost differential is large then Trioday may be more attractive-if either can be afforded then the Viraday may have a modest theoretical advantage due to the longer half life (persistence in blood) of lamivudine versus the FTC/emtricitabine component of Trioday).
