Response from Dr. Henry
HIV can cause kidney damage (usually with protein loss in urine and not standard vascular glomerulonephritis). HIV may have some association with vasculitis but link is not clear. Some HIV meds can cause kindey problems (such as tenofovir or stone causing drugs like indinavir) so it can be a challenge to sort out the cause of glomerulonephritis in setting of treated HIV infection. Usually can treat it to some degree under supervision of kidney specialist working with your HIV doctor. KH
