why i cant take anything herbal since i am taking atripla? What is the component that will make that medicine wont work?
| Response from Dr. Henry
There are a wide variety of herbal meds available most of which have not been specifically studied regarding interaction with Atripla (main concern is with efavirenz that is metabolized in the liver). St Johns wort should not be taken with Atripla due to concern about decreased effectiveness of the efavirenz due to lower levels. Concern also exists for garlic and ginko. I recommend discussing use of any herbal meds with your HIV provider so he/she can advise or monitor for any problems. KH
